Cardinals lose championship on walkoff

 HAYS – Beloit Trojan standout Darby Odle played the role of Supergirl. Odle pitched eight innings and delivered the game-winning base hit for a 6-5 championship victory over Hoisington in the Hays 3A softball regional.

Odle was touched for five runs, but retired the Cardinals smoothly in the final two innings. With two out, Odle ripped the game-winner off Hoisington pitcher Taylor Boxberger.

Breanna Schroeder doubled off Boxberger and moved to third base on Karson Brown’s bunt. Odle delivered the game-winning single to centerfield.

Hoisington defeated Hays-Thomas More Prep 9-3 and Beloit eliminated Sylvan 9-1 in Wednesday’s semifinals. Beloit (17-2) qualifies for the 3A state tournament at Emporia's Trusler Sports Complex.    

Hoisington’s Gracie Aylward drove in Bailee Bachar in the first inning. Beloit’s Paige Goddard and Sydney Barrett scored on a Cardinal error for a pair of unearned runs. Karson Brown and Goddard homered in the third inning for a 4-1 lead.
The Cardinals scored two fourth-inning runs. Kassidy Nixon doubled home Trinity Dolezal and Jenna Urban stole home. The Cardinals led 5-4 when Bachar doubled home Brooke Steinert and Skylar Eidson singled home Bachar in the fifth inning.

Two more errors cost the Cardinals. Jessica Meier scored on a sixth-inning error for a 5-5 tie.

The Cardinals (17-4) were retired in order in the final two innings.

 HOISINGTON 9, HAYS-TMP 3 (G1) – Trinity Dolezal homered and drove in three runs with four hits to spark the Cardinals.

The Cardinals broke the game open with a seven-run second inning. Kadence Urban delivered an RBI double. Brooke Steinert hit a run-scoring single. Skylar Eidson and Gracie Aylward added RBIs and Dolezal capped the rally with a two-run homer for a 7-1 lead.

Aylward and Dolezal delivered RBI hits for a 9-1 lead after six innings.

The Monarchs scratched out two runs in the seventh inning. M.K. Dwyer and Kyleigh Allen delivered RBI hits.
