BELOIT – Hoisington’s No. 1 ranked Pedigo (34-1, 195) and regional champion Joshua Ball (36-5, 170) headline five Cardinal state qualifiers for the 3A state wrestling tournament next week at Hays.
Pedigo pinned Beloit's River Paul (30-6) in the championship. Pedigo beat Minneapolis’ Tyson Villalpando 3-2 in last year’s 182-pound 3A state championship match.
Cardinal Joshua Ball (35-5, 170) pinned Layne Wilton of Bennington in 1:12 for first place. Ball placed sixth at 160 pounds last year.
The Cardinals scored 119 points to finish runner-up behind regional champion Smith Center (143).
Regional runner-up Quentin Boxberger (25-12, 106), runner-up Riley Philbern (27-11, 285) and third-place Dayne Yott (15-7, 145) also qualified for the state tournament.
Beloit's Mason Fuller defeated Boxberger 18-2 in the 106-pound finals. Republic County's No. 4 ranked Eyann Zimmerman (36-4).
Dayne Yott gained revenge with a third-place pin in 3:37 over Ellsworth's Morgan Kelley after losing 8-6 in the first round.
