Cardinals rally from 8-run deficit

HOISINGTON — Hoisington's baseball team staged a miraculous comeback with a 9-run seventh inning that shocked Larned 9-8 to complete a sweep of Tuesday's Central Kansas League twin bill.

Coach Erin Steiner's Cardinals (4-4, 3-1 CKL) drop Larned to 0-4, 0-2 CKL.

CARDINALS 9, LARNED 8 (G2) — Hoisington's Bentley Corbett scored the game-winner on Rhen Galla's sacrifice fly to cap a 9-run seventh-inning.

Larned gift wrapped the Cardinals' seventh-inning rally with a balk, four walks, three hit batters and two errors that led to four unearned runs.

Deacon Martin's single scored Brodie Crites and Marcus Ingram. Thomas Higgins scored the tying run on an error.

The Indians sprinted to an 8-0 lead. Mason Miller scored on Eli Morgan's sacrifice fly and Anthony Gonzalez scored on Tristan Regan's single.

Owen Shaver scored on Cooper Hebert's single to ignite a 5-run fourth inning. Eli Morgan's 3-run homer scored Herbert and Mason Miller. Tristan Regan followed with a home run for a 7-0 lead.

Morgan's single scored Gonzalez for an 8-0 lead after six innings.

CARDINALS 4, LARNED 3 (G1) — Hoisington's Brodie Crites doubled home Layton Hoffman and Galla with the tying and game-winning fifth-inning runs.

Cardinal Kaydin Umphrey (1-0) earned the victory with six strikeouts in a nifty 88-pitch outing.

Larned's Mason Miller scored on Morgan's first-inning single. Higgins scored on Brody Corbett's second-inning single for a 1-1 tie. Ryker Stout scored on Martin's fourth inning single for a 2-1 lead.

Gonzalez drove home Herbert with a fifth-inning sacrifice fly and Mason Miller scored on a double steal with Tristan Regan for a 3-2 lead.
