SPORTS IN KANSAS
HOISINGTON -- Hoisington junior Sofia Simic is proving once again why she’s among the top volleyball players in Kansas for the Cardinals (9-1).
The 6-2 outside hitter, committed to Illinois, has tallied 118 kills with a .341 hitting percentage in her junior season, putting her among the state leaders.
Simic broke the Kansas single-season ace record last year with 164. She's added 21 aces through just 20 sets in 2025, once again ranking near the top statewide.
Volleyball runs in the family: her mom played at Alabama, her dad played basketball at Stephen F. Austin, and this year she’s joined on the court by her younger sister Mila, a freshman who has made an immediate impact as Hoisington’s team leader in blocks.
CARDINALS SWEEP — Hoisington volleyball coach Mykela Riedl earned her 100th volleyball victory Tuesday with a victory over Haven Tuesday. Riedl got her 101st victory with a victory over St. John.
Hoisington improved to a 9-1 record.
The Cardinals junior varsity swept both the Wildcats and Tigers as well.
