NICKERSON — Hoisington's Brier Thompson enjoyed a perfect day with gold medals in the 100 meters (11.19), 110-meter hurdles (16.89) and 300-meter hurdles (41.75) along with first-place in the 1,600-meter relay (3:38.95) with Mason Martin, Taylen Morales and Dustin Wyant.
"Hoisington had outstanding performances on both sides, but none better than Brier Thompson who won four gold medals," said Hoisington coach Dan Schmidt. "The team will continue to improve at Ellsworth Tuesday and Smoky Valley Thursday to compete in two really solid meets."
The Cardinals (103) edged Hutchinson Trinity (100) for the team championship.
Hoisington's Layton Hoffman swept the shot put (47-12/2) and javelin (159-9). Morales won the pole vault (12-0).
Ellinwood won a trio of events with Dawson Sunderland, 200 (23.87); Ryan Pohlman, 1,600 (4:59.0) and the 400-meter relay (46.07) with Logan Broyles, Erik Grose and Landon Simpson.
GIRLS DIVISION — Ellinwood's Reagan Wirtz earned four medals with first places in the 100 meters (12.81), 200 (26.26) and long jump (18-0) along with a leg on the 1,600-meter relay (4:20.9) with double winner Eleanor Joiner, Jenna Borror and Ayla Ritchie.
Joiner swept first place in the 800 (2:29.32) and 1,600 (5:32.1). Ritchie won the 400 (1:04.27). Heidi Brauer won the 3,200 (15:04.03). The Eagles won the 3,200-meter relay (11:46.16) with Lexi Thomas, Brauer, Lauren Ringwald and Ali Gonzalez.
Hoisington's girls scored 114 points to beat Ellinwood (105) for the team title.
Hoisington's gold-medal winners were Harrison Henning, 300-meter hurdles (54.51); Kinley Wilkens, triple jump (34-01/4); Neveah Graves, javelin (102-1); Miette Kaiser, pole vault (7-0); and the 400-meter relay (53.52) with Addison Hanzlick, Wilkens, Reese Merlau and Marly Bittel.
