CUNNINGHAM 52, OTIS-BISON 6
OTIS — Underdog Otis-Bison kept battling in a 52-6 setback to No. 1 ranked Cunningham in Friday's 6-Man playoff quarterfinal. Quarterback Jake Hoopingarner sparked the Cougars, who gained 151 yards passing and 130 rushing.
The Cougars drove into Cunningham territory on every drive. They were stopped at the Wildcat 3-yard line, 10, 18 and 22-yard lines.
Hoopingarner completed a 5-yard touchdown pass to Ismael Cortez for the Cougars (6-4). Hoopingarner completed 17 of 27 passes off a nifty short passing game. Gavin Alloway rushed for 52 yards and Aiden Ochs-Lohrey added 51 yards.
The Wildcats downed the Cougars 50-0 in their first meeting.
Cunningham's talented receiver Dagin Reed and quarterback Will Wegerer showcased their skills. Wegerer threw for six touchdown passes. Reed caught scoring strikes of 5, 18 and 19 yards and converted five extra points kicks, good for 2 points each.
The first play for the Wildcats (9-0) since Oct. 14 against the Cougars was an opening 75-yard kickoff return by Stephen Thimesch, who caught a pair of touchdown passes from Wegerer.
The Wildcats (9-0) meet Tescott in the 6-man semifinals.
