ST. JOHN — The Ellinwood Eagles pulled off a stunning double Central Prairie League track championship

The Eagle girls (108) tied Ness City (108) for the Central Prairie title. Ellinwood's boys 

"The Ellinwood track and field teams delivered their most complete performance of the season," said Ellinwood coach Jeff Zook. "From the opening pole vault to the final leg of the 4x400-meter relay, both Ellinwood squads collected crucial points that proved essential in the final standings." 

Reagan Wirtz led the way with gold medals in the 100 meters (12.42), 200 meters (26.11) and long jump (17-6).

Eagle Eleanor Joiner won the 800 (2:27.34) and 1,600 (5:37.66). Wirtz and Joiner joined Ayla Ritchie and Jenna Borror on the runner-up 1,600 relay (4:13.23).

The Eagles won the 3,200 relay (10:40.27 with Lexi Thomas, Borror, Ritchie and Joiner.

Other first-place winners were Oiler Taylin Davis, 3,200 (12:33.0) and Otus-Bison's Destiny Mitchell, 400 (1:02.06).

The Lady Eagles saw 16 athletes contribute points across 13 events, culminating in a total of 108 points and a share of the CPL team championship. 

The Eagle boys put together an equally impressive showing, with 12 athletes scoring in 11 events. 

Ellinwood's first-place medalists were long jumper Landon Simpson (20-4) and 400 (52.18), pole vaulter Cason Merritt (12-6), 300-meter hurdler Logan Broyles (44.0), Ryan Pohman, 3,200 meters (10:52.91); and the 400-meter relay (44.71) with Simpson, Broyles, Cannon Schartz and Dawson Sunderland.

"That performance was enough to capture the CPL championship outright, marking a significant achievement for the program," Zook said.

The Eagles plan to carry momentum to 2A regionals next week.

"The Eagles carry confidence as they prepare for regional and state competition," Zook said. "The performance in St. John is an indication that Ellinwood will be a force to be reckoned with. in the weeks ahead."

Other first-place medalists were Chase's Malik Carson, 100 (11.41) and 200 (23.07); Otis-Bison high jumper Ian Haselhorst (5-10); Otis-Bison's triple jumper Gavin Alloway (41-7); Central Plains 110-meter hurdler Broc Klima (17.32); St. John's Quade Smith, 800 (1:59.23); and St. John's 1,600-meter relay (3:34.22) with Braxton Alpers, Jericho Mawhirter, Jace Ryes and Smith.
