ELLINWOOD 37, STANTON COUNTY 36 — Ellinwood's Alyvia Batchman converted a pair of free throws for the game-winning point in a 37-36 semifinal substate basketball victory over Stanton County Thursday. The Eagles combined for 5 of 12 free throws, but Batchman's free throws made it 37-34.

Stanton County's Scott scored with 11 seconds left, but she missed the tying free throw. Scott's desperation 3-pointer fell short at the final buzzer.

Ellinwood's Mette Maxwell rescued the Eagles with a career high 20 points, highlighted by six 3-pointers. Ellinwood (19-2) plays Phillipsburg (19-3) in Saturday's substate championship game. It's the first time since 2006 the Eagles have qualified for the 2A substate basketball championship.
