Cardinal softball wins pair

HAYS — Ellinwood's softball team lost a heartbreaker 6-5 to Hays Thomas More Prep after losing the opener 12-1 in Tuesday's twim bill.

TMP 12, ELLINWOOD 1 (G1) — Ellinwood's Kennedy Behnke singled home Bennett Jacobs for the Eagles' run. Jacobs, Ali Gonzalez, Behnke and Shyria Quintana singled. 

Monarch Bria Windholz drove home four runs. Brynn Rebel and Teagan Gottschalk each drove in two runs. The Monarchs scored seven unearned runs off three Ellinwood errors.

TMP 6, ELLINWOOD 5 (G2) — Elllinwood's Quintana drilled a 2-run homer that scored Kyndal Moore to get within 6-5 before pitcher Windholz retired Makynna Bryant to end the game.

Anna Hahn doubled home Quintana and Jenna Borror in a 3-run seconds inning. Gonzalez singled home Rylan Allen.

Monarch Brooke Koenigsman ripped a 2-run homer that scored Rebel. Rebel tripled home Brynn Schnoepf. Piper Simpson doubled home Koenigsman with the game-winning run.
