HUTCHINSON – The Western Athletic Conference bowling champion Great Bend boys and Panther girls will compete in Tuesday's 5A bowling regional at The Alley in Hutchinson.
Great Bend's Daegan Miller (203 avg.) and Zoey Mayberry (200 avg.) earned Western Athletic Conference Most Valuable Bowlers for the WAC champions.
Great Bend’s bowling coach David Feldbauer has guided the Panther girls to a pair of 5-1A state bowling championships.
Barton Cougar bowling signee Zoey Mayberry has placed sixth (591), 10th (576) and 13th (565) at the 5A state bowling championship. She is a 2-time state team champion. First-team All-WAC Zoey Mayberry qualified sixth (546) at regionals. Great Bend’s girls finished fifth at regionals last year.
First-team All-WAC Brooklynn Mayberry has placed 18th (544) and 51st (448) at the 5A state tournament while being a member of the 2024 state champion. Brooklynn qualified for state by one pin for an individual state berth.
Second-team All-WAC Emery Meza returns as a varsity veteran with Abigail Alvarez.
The Panther girls regional lineup will feature 3-time state qualifier Zoey Mayberry (200 avg. 732 series); Brooklynn Mayberry (152, 521 series); Meza (143, 516 series); Alvarez (131, 500 series); Alejandra Ayala (129, 433 series) and Cassidee Hoch (120, 415 series).
Last year's 5A regional runner-up Josh Manning qualified for 5A state with a career-best 704 series, including 265 and 266 games. Manning (453) placed 71st at the state meet.
The Panther boys lineup will feature All-WAC Xander Orth (205 avg. 705 series); All-WAC Brantley Vsetecka (195, 677 series); WAC MVP Daegen Miller (197, 668 series); second team All WAC Tyler Pelster (197, 653 series); second team All-WAC Kanyen Parr (186, 626 series); and second-team All-WAC Manning (184, 640 series).
Both the Panther boys (10 a.m.) and girls (1:30 p.m.) will attempt to qualify as team or top individuals outside of the team qualifiers.
