HAYS – The Great Bend Braves Legion baseball team earned a pair of hard-fought wins over the Hays Hammers 7-5 and 11-10 Friday night.
BRAVES 7, HAYS HAMMERS 5 (G1) – Great Bend scored three valuable seventh-inning insurance runs for a 7-5 victory over the Hays Hammers. Trey Milsap, Trenton Kern and Peyden Oelger scored on a pair of bases-loaded hit batters and a walk for a 7-2 lead.
Kale Kern’s 2-run double scored Jaxon Wondra and Carson Poe and Poe and Oelger delivered RBI hits in a 4-run second inning.
The Hammers rallied. Bennett Smith tripled in Sam Thielen. Isaac Purinton and Karson Flaska scored in the sixth inning. Kaleb Roe scored on a sacrifice fly and Flaska singled in Purinton in the seventh inning before Oelger recorded the final out.
BRAVES 11, HAYS HAMMERS 10 (G2) – Milsap and Eli Contreras each drove in two runs for an 11-2 lead after 21/2 innings before the Hammers rallied. Oelger pitched 22/3 innings to earn the save with three strikeouts.
The Braves (9-2) built an 11-2 lead with an 8-run third inning. Eli Soupiset, Kale Kern, Trenton Kern and Collin Saffa also drove in runs. Aiden Hekele, Contreras and Milsap doubled.
Hays’ Kal Lonsdale drove in two runs. The Hammers delivered 10 hits.
