Great Bend golfer places 11th at match play

EMPORIA — Great Bend’s Cole Streck finished 11th with a 2-2 record at the Kansas Junior Match Play Championship Wednesday and Thursday at Emporia Golf Course.

In match play, Wichita’s Junior Amateur champion Cooper Schultz (1 under) downed Streck (6 over), 7 and 5. Streck won five holes on the front nine to beat Lawrence’s Andrew Park, 4 and 3. Last year’s match play champion Mason Nicklaus (2 under) downed Streck (3 over par), 5 and 4, in the third round. Streck downed Salina's Cameron Shaw, 1-up, for 11th-place.

Streck fired rounds of 77-73 (150) to place 11th in the Junior Tour Championship qualifying. Streck birdied Nos. 3 and 7 the first round and No. 16 the second round. 

Junior Tour champion Gentry Scheve shot 64-70 (134) to edge Salina’s Tate Herrenbruck 68-69 (137) to win the qualifying tournament. Scheve (3 under) birdied Nos. 14, 15 and 16 to beat Herrenbruck 3 and 2 in the match play championship.

Ellinwood’s Drew Heinz shot rounds of 97-104 (201) to place 17th in the 12-13 age division.
