HAYSVILLE 4, BAT CATS 3 — Haysville’s Clay Artho singled home Austin Warnkins for the game-winning 10th-inning hit off reliever Hagen Rose Monday. Haysville’s bunting game proved critical as the Aviators scored three runs after key bunts and a fourth run on a bases-loaded walk.

Sunflower Collegiate League pitchers have discovered the Great Bend Bat Cats’ Kyptonite — a junkball lefthander.

Great Bend (15-3, 11-2 Sunflower) went scoreless for five innings against soft-throwing lefties on back-to-back nights. Haysville southpaw Arturo Ramirez baffled the Bat Cats for five shutout innings. JoJo Nieves managed the lone single against Ramirez, but was picked off first base.

Haysville’s Jayden Hill doubled home Kaden McBratney, who bunted for a third-inning single and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt. McBratney’s sacrifice fly scored Cole Clepper after two singles and a fourth-inning bunt by Warnkins.

The Bat Cats scored a pair of seventh-inning runs for a 2-2 tie. Dawson French scored on Bodi Wallar’s single. Simon Larraanaga scored on Colby Christian’s groundball.

Haysville regained an eighth-inning lead when Matt Buffington scored on Paul Wittmann’s bases-loaded walk after a hit batter, a walk and an error. Bat Cats third baseman Colter Maldanado turned a 5-3 double play to end the bases-loaded threat.

Bat Cat Larranaga scored on Christian’s 2-out, ninth-inning bloop single for a 3-3 tie. Maldanado again saved the Bat Cats with an alert tag on Hall, who strolled off third base after a ninth-inning triple.
