HOLCOMB 80, LARNED 40 — Holcomb's Kaden Hardy scored 21 points to lead the fast-paced Longhorns past outmanned Larned 80-40 in Friday's 3A substate basketball game. Holcomb ran off 16 straight in the second quarter.
Larned (7-14) was paced by Kylier Greene with 12 points and Carter Crosby with 10 points. Larned made 17 of 43 field goals (39%) and converted 4-of-4 free throws. The Indians made 2 of 11 three-pointers.
Holcomb's Jareht (12) and Brody Deniston (10) scored in double figures. The Longhorns (17-4) play Beloit (16-4) in the March 5 substate semifinal.
Holcomb jumped out to a 21-6 first-quarter lead and were never challenged as they led 51-17 at halftime. The Longhorns built their lead on a combination of Larned turnovers, offensive rebounds and some terrific 3-point shooting. Only Greene’s inside presence offered much offensive resistance for Larned.
Holcomb converted 12 of 38 shots on 3-pointers. The Longhorns made 28 of 61 field goals (46%) and 8 of 13 free throws. Holcomb converted 14 Larned turnovers into easy baskets.
