Indians sweep Vikings softball
LARNED — Larned pitcher Madison Wood set the tone with a 2-hitter to spark the Indians past Smoky Valley 6-1 and 9-4 in Tuesday's Central Kansas softball doubleheader. The Indians (7-5, 2-4 CKL) play at Haven (8-3, 6-2 CKL) Thursday.
INDIANS 6, VIKINGS 1 — Wood (2-3) struck out five batters and yielded a pair of singles in her best game of the spring. Maya Wilson doubled and drove home three runs.
Wilson scored on a first-inning error. Kenzley Haxton scored for a 1-1 tie.
Jadyn Crosby scored on Jillian Hagerman's fourth-inning double. Hagerman scored on Wood's groundout.
Wilson's double scored Wood, Gillian Smith and Eowyn Hedding in a 3-run sixth inning.
INDIANS 9, VIKINGS 4 — Larned took advantage of 12 walks, 11 wild pitches and three hit-batters. Pitcher Crosby (3-1) struck out six batters.
Hagerman's single scored Karley Lemuz and Crosby in a 3-run second inning. Hagerman scored on a double play.
Teagan Walker scored on a Lemuz groundout. Brooke Simmons scored on a basss-loaded hit batter for a 5-2 lead.
Wilson scored on a wild pitch to start a 3-run fourth inning. Lemuz scored on Ivy Hope's bases-loaded hit by pitch. Brooks Simmons scored on a wild pitch for an 8-3 lead. Wilson scored the final run on a fifth-inning wild pitch.
Smoky Valley's Rylie Tolle drove home a pair of runs. Rylie Nywick drove in a run for the Vikings (1-7, 1-7 CKL).
