Larned splits with Hoisington

HOISINGTON – Hoisington pitcher Quentin Boxberger spun a one-hit shutout to spark an 8-0 first-game baseball victory over Larned. The Indians rallied for an 8-5 victory in the nightcap.

Hoisington improves to an 8-4 record while Larned drops to 2-6.

HOISNGTON 8, LARNED 0 (G1) – Quentin Boxberger struck out seven batters in a tidy 73-pitch outing.  Larned's Carlos Ibarra delivered the Indians' lone base hit with a fifth-inning double. Shortstop Hunter Hanzlick threw out Ibarra at home to preserve a shutout. 

Hoisington managed four RBIs as Larned contributed seven walks and three errors.

Hoisington's Braxton Donovan scored on Trey Byers' first-inning single. Byers scored on Hunter Hanzlick's groundout for a 2-0 lead. 

Hoisington put the game away with a four-run second inning. Cole Steinert scored on an error. Jacob Specht scored on a passed ball on a strikeout. Derek Boxberger scored on a wild pitch. M.J. Alyward scored on Layton Haxton's groundout for a 6-0 lead.

Hoisington centerfielder Jerred Bieberle turned Mello Bryant's fly ball into a third-inning double play. Trey Byers scored on a third-inning wild pitch. Haxton scored on a fifth-inning error for a run-rule victory.

LARNED 8, HOISINGTON 5 (G2) – Larned broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning for an 8-5 victory. Mello Bryant scored on a wild pitch. Jack Stelter scored on a bases-loaded walk. Kaden Pontius scored on Ian Orth's single. Aidan Smyth scored on an error for an 8-5 lead.

Larned pitcher Aidan Smyth rallied from a rocky start for a five-inning victory with 112 pitches. 

Hoisington's pitchers issued eight walks and the defense committed four errors.

Larned's Mello Bryant scored on a first-inning dropped third strike. Hoisington scored twice in the first inning. Braxton Donovan singled home Jerred Bieberle. Donovan scored on an error for a 2-1 lead.

Larned scored three second-inning runs. Ian Orth scored on an error. Gunnar Cline scored on a passed ball. Ibarra scored when Kaden Pontius was hit by a pitch for a 4-2 lead. But starter Hanzlick struck out Aidan Smyth to work out of a bases-loaded jam.

Hoisington regained the lead with a three-run third inning. Shawn Ingram scored on Byers' groundball. Hanzlick singled home Bieberle and Byers for a 5-4 lead.
