Medicine Lodge erases early Ellinwood lead

MEDICINE LODGE 41, ELLINWOOD 6 (1A District 7) — Ellinwood's road game started flawlessly with Ty Hammeke's early touchdown reception and an interception by Kellan Behnke. Quarterback Luke Heinz delivered a 30-yard touchdown pass to Hammeke.

But the Eagles' 1A playoff hopes were erased by three Indian interceptions, two returned for game-changing touchdowns. Judson Barnard swung the momentum with back-to-back interceptions, both off tipped passes.  

Zayne Keller scored on a 20-yard run after the first interception. Braxx Farr converted a 35-yard touchdown run. Barnard returned his second interception 20 yards for a score. Jack Schreiner delivered the second 'pick six' with a 37-yard return. Keller caught a 37-yard touchdown pass and Slayton Stone converted a 1-yard touchdown.

Medicine Lodge (4-4, 3-2) spoiled Ellinwood's playoff hopes with a 41-6 victory in 1A, District 7. Ellinwood (4-4, 1-4 District) had to beat Medicine Lodge to qualify for postseason play.
