CENTRAL PLAINS GIRLS 35, ST. JOHN 28 — Marilyn Soeken scored 17 points to spark Central Plains past St. John 35-28 in Friday's showdown for first place in the Central Prairie League girls division. Maggie Strouse added 10 points.

The Oilers (13-3, 5-0 CPL) claim first place keyed by stifling defense and double teams that limited the Tigers to 28 points and 11 of 39 shooting. St. John's Mia Meyer scored 15 points and Lydia Reed added six points.

Defending CPL champion St. John (11-5, 5-1) stopped the Oilers' 67-game league winning streak last year that also snapped the Tigers' 29-game losing streak to the Oilers.
