LINDSBORG — Central Plains Oilers Brynna Hammeke/Kyla Metro avenged an early-season setback with a dominating 6-2, 6-1 victory over Smoky Valley’s Karik Elliott/Lena Raucholz at Monday’s Smoky Valley Invitational. The Smoky Valley tandem downed the Oilers 8-4 during a match Sept. 1.

Hammeke/Metro (19-5) placed fifth in last year’s 3-2-1A state tournament. Hammeke/Metro defeated Hesston’s Michaela Martin/Cassandra Albin, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 and Ellsworth’s Nicole Haase/Maggie Windholz, 6-3, 6-2 to reach the championship match.

The Oilers’ No. 2 doubles Jennah Jeffrey/Lauren Oeser (12-8) placed sixth with a 6-2, 6-0 setback to Hesston’s Martin/Albin. 

Hesston’s Gracie Dawes downed Hutchinson Trinity’s Haley Hughes, 6-4, 6-2 for first place in singles. 

Central Plains’ Brooke Armstrong downed Hutchinson Trinity’s Gianna Schoenfield 9-5 for 11th place.
