Great Bend split a pair of non-league baseball games beating Junction City 7-2 and losing to McPherson 7-0 Friday.

The Panthers (15-8) are projected to play Salina South (10-14) in 5A regional play based on records through May 8.

PANTHERS 7, JUNCTION CITY 2 — The Panthers broke to a 5-0 lead and coasted past Junction City.

Jaxon Wondra, Trenton Kern, Christian Alcala, Jaden Prilling and Gavin Wondra delivered RBIs in a 5-run first inning.

Alcala singled home a run and Prilling with a sacrifice bunt added two insurance runs.

Panther pitcher Rafael Chavez struck out eight batters to earn the victory.

MCPHERSON 7, PANTHERS 0 — The Panthers endured a 'Bad News Bears' baserunning disaster with their first four baserunners thrown out on the bases.

The Panthers mistakes handed McPherson its first two runs. Graham Prescott scored when catcher Trenton Kern was unable to control a throw at home. Cru Buckman scored when Panther pitcher Jaxon Wondra hit Cowen Huggard on a 2-2 count with the bases loaded.

The Bullpups (19-5) scored five seventh-inning runs. Brady Rinker, Huggard, and Prescott drove in runs. Adrian Unruh delivered a 2-run single for a 7-0 lead.
