WICHITA — Great Bend and Wichita West battled for 80 minutes, plus overtime, but settled for a 1-1 tie in an evenly-matched non-league soccer game. It was a hard-fought game between two teams with one win apiece. WIchita West owns a 1-8-1 record.

Alex Alonzo scored the Panthers goal.

"Our goalie Eli Contreras played a great game," said Great Bend coach Chuy Loera. "Eli made plenty of saves that kept us in the game. Without his big performance, we may have lost. Overall, the team is continuing to improve. We're looking for a breakout game where everything clicks offensively and defensively. I believe that game could come Monday when we host Hesston."

Great Bend (1-7-1) is battling to move up from the 17th-seed in 5A West soccer, which would eliminate the Panthers from post-season play. The Panthers play 4-1A Hesston (5-5-1) Monday at home followed by a Tuesday match against 4-1A Berean Academy (7-3).
