SOUTH GRAY 78, MACKSVILLE 38

SPEARVILLE – South Gray ended payback for a state semifinal loss with a dominating 78-38 victory in the championship game in Saturday's Spearville Basketball Tournament.  

Last year state champion Mustangs (3-1) downed South Gray 78-65 in the 1A Division 1 state semifinals.

The Rebels (4-0) converted a dozen 3-pointers keyed by Joseph Dyck with 31 points and a pair of 3-pointers and Gavin Wahl with 23 points and five 3-pointers. 

Macksville (3-1) were led by Kendall Grippin (13) and Diego Esparza (14), who was held 20 points under his 34-point average. The Rebels outscored the Mustangs 38-10 for a 43-20 halftime lead after trailing 10-5.

SPEARVILLE – South Gray's girls roared to a 31-5 halftime lead and coasted past Macksville 58-20 in Saturday's Spearville Basketball Tournament.

Macksville's Kambry Adams and Isabela Ortiz each scored seven points. Ortiz dished out three assists and Adams grabbed six rebounds.

SPEARVILLE – Macksville's Laney Butler scored a career high 19 points and Kambry Adams contributed 14 points as the Mustangs downed Sublette 53-27 in Friday's Spearville Basketball Tournament.

SPEARVILLE – Macksville's Diego Esparza, the state's leading scorer at 40 points per game, led the Mustangs with 32 points and five steals to beat Sublette 58-53 in Friday's  Spearville Basketball Tournament.  

Macksville's Hector Gomez scored 15 points with four steals and four rebounds. Kendall Grippin added eight points.

The defending state champion Mustangs (3-0) earn a rematch with South Gray in Saturday's championship game after beating the Rebels in last year's 1A Division 1 state semifinals.
