Tiger track qualifies five

ST. JOHN GIRLS 54, MACKSVILLE 38 —  St. John's girls (14-9, 8-1 CPL) clinched second place in the Central Prairie League with a 54-38 victory over Macksville Friday. 

St. John's fast-breaking Reagan Bonner scored 21 points and Lily Brummer netted 16 points with a pair of 3-pointers. The Tigers counted a 2-pointer when Macksville scored on the Tigers' basket.

Macksville's Ava Chadd scored 16 points and Daniela Reyes added 13 points, 11 after halftime.

The Tigers play Elkhart (6-14) Feb. 24 and Macksville (9-15, 5-4 CPL) meets La Crosse (13-9) Feb. 24 in the Spearville substate.

St. John's Emmett Delp scored 19 points. Easton Alpers added 10 points with a pair of treys as the Tigers converted 10 3-pointers. St. John (17-6, 8-1 CPL) plays Kinsley (8-15) in Monday's Spearville substate opener. 

Macksville's Carlos Ibarra scored eight points. Gavin Rose grabbed 12 rebounds. Macksville (3-19) plays at South Gray (17-5) Monday.

ST. JOHN 62, KINSLEY 36—Emmett Delp threw down three slam dunks in a brilliant 30-point effort that sparked the Tigers past Kinsley 62-36 in the Spearville substate. Braxton Alpers added 12 points. The Tigers led 36-17 at halftime.

St. John (18-6) plays South Central (17-6) in the Spearville semifinals.

Kinsley's Joey Preito scored 15 points and Ty Clawson added 11 points.
