Tiger track qualifies five

ST. JOHN 56, VICTORIA 26 — St. John basketball coach Danton Hilton watched the Tigers enjoy the golden touch. Victoria coach Devin Ryan witnessed a living nightmare.

The Tigers (8-3, 3-0 CPL) erased a 9-point deficit with a shocking 35-1 scoring run that turned Victoria's 17-11 lead into a stunning 50-18 lead. St. John scored off steals, knocked down 3-pointers and exhibited flawless offensive and defensive execution over a near-perfect 14-minute stretch. 

St. John's Emmett Delp (15), Jace Reyes (12) and Wyatt Mawhirter (11) scored in double figures. Easton Alpers converted a pair of 3-pointers as the Tigers made seven 3-pointers.

After defending Central Prairie League champion Victoria (7-2, 2-1 CPL) converted five first-quarter 3-pointers, the Knights made three field goals in the final 24 minutes. Nick Sander scored nine points.

ST. JOHN GIRLS 64, VICTORIA 42 — St. John's girls cruised past Victoria 64-42 in Thursday's Central Kansas League basketball game.

Lilly Brummer scored 20 points and Regan Bonner (16) and Jalyn Fisher (12) scored in double figures. The Tigers converted five 3-pointers and scored inside and outside.

Victoria's Kaylee Kuhn scored 18 points and Emma Dinkel added 12 points.
