WICHITA — No. 3 ranked WIchita Carroll powered past No. 6 ranked Great Bend 10-5 in a showdown between state-ranked baseball teams.
Wichita Carroll (12-2) downs the best record in 5A West while the Panthers (9-3) are the third-best 5A team. The Panthers play at McPherson Tuesday for two games.
Carroll roughed up Panther starter Daxton Minton for eight earned runs and eight hits in 22/3 innings.
Trenton Kern doubled home Koehn Ribordy and Owen Kaiser for a 2-0 lead. But the Golden Eagles scored eight runs in the next three innings.
Judd Blasi delivered an RBI single and Wyatt Fulfer's sacrifice fly led to a 2-2 tie after two walks and a hit by pitch. Drew Niedens scored on Jonah Mull's single. Aedyn Acosta scored on Isaac Lager's single. Harrison King scored on a Niedens' sacrifice fly for a 5-2 lead.
Panther Carson Umphreys scored on a third-inning error. Carroll's Acosta singled in Luke Roberts and Hunter Axline and Acosta scored on King's double for an 8-3 lead. Niedens scored on Fulfer's single.
Minton singled home Umphreys for the Panthers' fourth run. Carroll's Axline scored on a groundout. Kern's bases-loaded walk forced home Ribordy for a seventh-inning run.
