Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! We will be closed on Monday, July 4, in observance of the holiday. If you’re planning on barbecuing this year, be sure to stop by the library today or tomorrow to snag one of our free barbecue dry rub kits. Concoct your own mix using one of our recipes, or freestyle with the provided spices. Be sure to hurry in, as we are only providing this through tomorrow while supplies last.

Friday, July 1, we have Casual Game Friday for teens grades 6-12. This time we will be playing Overcooked! 2. Each player will control a quirky chef and dash around the kitchen as they do their best to fill orders in increasingly demanding restaurants. Wash dishes, cook food, and serve it up in this fast-paced, team-oriented food adventure! After you’re done dashing around virtual kitchens, be sure to pick up this week’s Teen Take & Make, Mermaid Tail Keychains.

For adults 18 and older, Friday is our next Adults’ Night Out Movie. We will be traveling under the sea once again for another harrowing adventure! Disaster strikes when a drilling station more than six miles below the ocean surface is compromised. The survivors’ only hope is to walk along the ocean floor to another drilling facility, but things get even more dangerous when a mysterious and deadly creature begins attacking the crew. The movie starts at 7 p.m. The north doors will be open from 6:45 p.m. to 7:15 for our moviegoers.

Next week we will be taking a week off from library events to get ready to dive in for the last three weeks of our summer programming, which are packed full of activities like magic shows, story times shark dissections, trivia nights, craft activities and much, much more! We hope everyone has a happy and safe Fourth of July. Please keep pets and veterans in mind while you celebrate to ensure everyone gets to enjoy the holiday safely. When setting off fireworks that produce extremely loud sounds, reach high altitudes, or tend to throw off a large amount of sparks, finding a safe, open place far from homes is always best and keeps everyone safe.
