An Ellinwood woman has been charged with first degree murder in connection with the death of a 4-month-old baby, Kansas Attorney General Kris W. Kobach announced Thursday evening.
Christy M. Nemnich, 32, was charged with one count of first-degree murder, two counts of child abuse, and one count of operating an unlicensed daycare in Barton County District Court in connection with the March 28, 2023, death of M.R., a four-month-old baby.
The case is being investigated by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation with the assistance of the Barton County Sheriff’s Office.
The charges were filed by First Assistant Attorney General Megan Ahsens of Kobach’s office. A statement from that office noted criminal charges are merely accusations. Individuals are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Any public comments on the prosecution of Nemnich are governed by the Kansas Rules of Professional Conduct Rule 3.6, Trial Publicity, and Rule 3.8, Special Responsibilities of a Prosecutor.
