The Great Bend Police Department posted the following items on social media on Monday regarding two incidents from Sunday, June 15.
At approximately 4:53 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the 1300 block of Stone Street in reference to a domestic violence incident that was reported to have occurred at a residence in the 1700 block of Morton Street.
Officers contacted a female victim who reported being held against her will for approximately 38 hours by her boyfriend. The victim stated that during this time, her phone was taken from her, she was physically restrained inside the residence, and she was not permitted to leave. She further reported being physically assaulted, including being choked, resulting in visible bruising to her neck, arms, and chest. The victim advised that she and the suspect reside together at the residence on Morton Street.
The suspect, identified as Edgar Loya, a 30-year-old male, was located at the residence and taken into custody without incident. According to the GBPD post, he was transported to the Barton County Jail, where he was booked for aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery and criminal damage to property in lieu of a $500,000 bond. The jail log supplied to the Great Bend Tribune shows is was booked for aggravated domestic battery with bond set at $20,000 cash or surety.
Another arrest
In an unrelated case, at 11:03 p.m. on June 15, a GBPD officer and a deputy with the Barton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the 400 block of Plum Street in an effort to locate Yolanda Ortiz, a 36-year-old female who was wanted for outstanding warrants.
Ortiz had an active warrant from Sedgwick County for aggravated battery, as well as a probation violation warrant out of Barton County.
Officers were granted entry into the residence, where they located Ortiz in a bedroom. As officers were taking her into custody, they reportedly observed narcotics and related items in plain view.
The residence was immediately secured, and a search warrant was obtained. Upon execution of the search warrant, officers recovered additional evidence allegedly related to narcotics.
According to the GBPD post, Ortiz was transported and booked into the Barton County Jail for the felony warrants, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and no drug tax stamp in lieu of a $50,000 bond. The jail log supplied to the Great Bend Tribune does not include anyone booked in after 12:01 a.m. on June 15 but will be available on Tuesday.
