Injury crash reported in Ford County

A motorist from Protection sustained what appeared to be serious injuries on Thursday after rear-ending a Peterbilt that was stopped in traffic in Ford County. The truck driver, from Hoisington, had no apparent injuries.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at 4:52 p.m. on U.S. 400 at 117 Road. A 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 driven by Brian Eugene Plegge, 49, from Protection, was westbound, as was Gregory Ray Curtis, 43, of Hoisington, driving the Peterbilt. Curtis was stopped in traffic waiting to turn left onto 117th St. Plegge failed to yield to traffic in time and struck the rear of the truck. KHP reports he was not wearing a seat belt; he was transported to St. Catherine Hospital in Dodge City.
