A motorist was transported to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita on Thursday after a sport utility vehicle collided with a semitrailer in Pawnee County, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Gabriel Reed Cowell, 26, from Oxford, Mississippi, was westbound on K-19 at 6:25 p.m. when the Mazda CX-9 he was driving went left of center and collided with a Peterbilt pulling a Merritt trailer driven by Mike Lynn Miller, 37, of Stafford. The Mazda rolled into the north ditch, coming to rest on its roof. The semi continued into the south ditch but remained upright.

The Highway Patrol described Cowell’s injuries as “suspected serious.” He was wearing a seat belt.

Miller was not wearing a safety restraint but had no apparent injury.
