ELLINWOOD — Abel Eugene Hamby, 61, passed away at Kansas Wesley Hospital in Wichita, Kan. on Jan. 31, 2025. Born on April 18, 1963 in Ellinwood, Kan. to parents John Ray and Karen Arlene (Frank) Hamby, he was a 1981 graduate of Ellinwood High School. Main residences were Attica and Ellinwood, Kan. In addition to a lifetime of working in the oil field Abel also worked as a police officer in the 80s and truck driver.
Survivors include children, Todd Hamby (Sarah Fox), Ellinwood, Kan., Kenny Hamby (Kathleen Bush), Ellinwood, Kan., Cassie Hamby (James Midgard) Salina, Kan., Jerry (Kimberly ) Hamby, Meadville, Pa.; siblings, Elva Mitchell, Ellinwood, Kan., Connie (Jack) Jenks, Ellinwood, Kan., Kevin (Jennifer) Hamby, Great Bend, Kan.; and mother, Karen Arlene (Frank) Hamby, Ellinwood, Kan. Other survivors include nine grandchildren; numerous nieces/nephews, great nieces/nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by father John Ray Hamby.
Family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. at Minnis Chapel on Saturday, Feb. 15th. Inurnment will take place Sunday, Feb. 16th at 10 a.m. at Lakin-Comanche Cemetery in Ellinwood, Kan. Memorial are suggested to Funeral Expenses in care of Minnis Chapel, PO Box 246, Ellinwood, KS 67526.
