Betty J. Burton 1932 - 2020

BURKBURNETT, Texas — Betty J. Burton, age 88 years, of Burkburnett, Texas and formerly of Great Bend, Kan., passed away early on Friday morning, July 24, 2020 at United Regional Healthcare in Wichita Falls, Texas. Betty was born on March 27, 1932 at McPherson, Kan. to Harry and Frona “Marie” (Payne) Byerly. Betty lived nearly all her life in Great Bend, where she worked for the Great Bend Manor as a Nurse Aide for many years and then worked as a waitress for the former Black Angus Restaurant for several years. She was united in marriage to Irvin J. Burton on Sept. 24, 1988 at Great Bend, Kan.  

Betty loved reading and gardening, taking care of her grandkids, and she and Irvin were avid campers. She loved taking care of her dog, Molly. Betty was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church at Great Bend, Kan. 

Survivors include one son, Richard Lloyd of Great Bend, Kan.; three daughters, Cathy (and her husband Arne) Apeland of Denton, Texas, Penny Murray of Great Bend, Kan., and Pamela (and her husband Johnny) Hibbs of Burkburnett, Texas; four step-children, Kathy (and her husband Allen) Petz of Hutchinson, Kan., Kevin (and his wife Annette) Burton and Kelly (and his wife Colleen) Burton, and Debra Ficken of La Crosse, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Irvin J. Burton on Nov. 9, 2014; her daughter Lawanda Ritchie and her son Galen Lloyd; three brothers; and three sisters. 

Memorial Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020 at First United Methodist Church in Great Bend, Kan. with Reverend Morita Truman officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Great Bend City Cemetery. The family will greet friends and relatives from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Charter Funerals in Great Bend.
