SOUTH HUTCHINSON — Constance ‘Connie’ Joan Lathrop, 85, died June 6, 2024, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson, Kan. She was born October 8, 1938, in San Jose, CA, to Charles Stallings and Lucille (Waggoner) Stallings.

Connie was a graduate of Ellinwood High School, Ellinwood, Kan., and attended Barton County Community College, Great Bend, Kan.  Connie was involved in her husband’s floor covering business. 

Prior to moving to South Hutchinson, Kan., she attended Heartland Community Church, Great Bend, Kan. Throughout her life she was active in the church and was passionate about serving and providing leadership for the church youth programs, such as the Youth Group, Sunday School, organizing retreats, and establishing youth Christian coffee houses in Ellinwood, Kan. and Saint John, Kan.  Connie was an avid student of the Bible. She loved her family and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.

On Oct. 23, 1955, Connie married Arlyn LeRoy Lathrop, in Ellinwood, Kan. They shared over 65 years of marriage, prior to his death on Dec. 5, 2020.

Connie is survived by her children, Mike (Betty) Lathrop of Monet, Mo., Leslye (Walter) Carithers of Hutchinson, Kan., Carol (Mark) Pauls of Bloomfield, N.J., and Angela (Jim) Hill of Kansas City, Mo.; grandchildren, Shawn (Amber) Carithers, Chris (Sierra Badley) Carithers, Catie (fiancé Andy McCormick) Lathrop, Beth Hill, and Tina Hill; great-grandchildren, Ava Carithers and Daniel Arlyn Carithers; sister, Barbara Wilson of Nash, Okla.; and lifelong friend, Jean Peevyhouse of Yoder, Kan. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Diana Meyer.

Memorial service will be 9 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2024, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Claflin, Kan. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Mennonite Friendship Communities in care of Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
