Donald Eugene “Don” Chalfant

Donald Eugene “Don” Chalfant, 92, passed away July 6, 2024, at his home in Great Bend, Kan. He was born on Nov. 27, 1931, in Kinsley, Kan., to Charles and Irene (Curtright) Chalfant. On April 5, 1958, he married Vivian True in Hutchinson, Kan. She passed on Aug. 8, 2012.

A resident of Great Bend for 60 years, Don worked as a lab technician, later shifting to an optician lab technician, then driving the bus for the Great Bend Senior Center for 15 years. Prior to his careers, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy, as well as the United States Navy Reserves. Don was a member of First Christian Church and Silver Cougar Club. He enjoyed attending Great Bend Community Theater Productions, golfing at Lake Barton Golf Club, and was an active volunteer at the Senior Center, from serving drinks to helping wherever he was needed.

Survivors include son, Mark Chalfant and wife Tammy of Andover; daughter, Cindy Hubbell and husband Steve of Spearville; five grandchildren, Drew Hubbell and wife Ashley, Sarah Connelly and husband Blake, Jeff Hubbell and wife Uriah, Tara Moppin and husband Travis, and Matt Chalfant and wife Courtney; ten great grandchildren, Avery, Landree and Briley Hubbell, Addilyn, Anna, and Sean Connelly, Mason and Landon Hubbell, Oliver Moppin, and John Chalfant; brother, Wendell Chalfant and wife Judy of Hutchinson; sister, Ruth Herman and husband Jim of Great Bend; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife; great grandchild, Kolton Jax Hubbell; his parents; and sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and George Cooper.

Visitation will take place noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at First Christian Church, with Pastor Joshua Leu presiding. Interment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials have been designated to Great Bend Senior Center or First Christian Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.
