Jason “J.R.” Balding, 38, passed away Feb. 4, 2025, at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kan. He was born July 14, 1986, to Robin Hill and Tracy Thacker in Larned. He was later adopted by Gary and Kathy Balding, who lovingly raised him. Jason was also blessed to have Fredrick McNett as a caring father in his life.
Jason was a passionate video game enthusiast where he found excitement and connection in the world of gaming. He was also deeply devoted to his loyal dog, Nala, who remained by his side through thick and thin. Above all, Jason was a kind and loving son, brother, and friend. His presence brought warmth to those who knew him, and he will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
Survivors include his brother, Brandon Hill of Garfield; sisters Meda Gutierrez of Great Bend, Anna Startzman and her husband Chad of Isabel, Katrina Cramer and her husband Dustin of Branson, Mo., Crystal Cummins and her husband Steve of Isabel; bonus siblings, Dycie Peschka and her husband Joe, AJ Chrest and her husband Jacob, James Silas McNett all of Great Bend; and many cherished nieces and nephews who brought him great joy. He was preceded in death by birth mother, Tracy Thacker; sister Tina Renee Hill.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2025, at First Church of Nazarene with Pastor Josh Foster presiding. Visitation will take place Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Monday, Feb. 10, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at Bryant Funeral Home. Additional visitation time will be held at 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. at First Church of Nazarene.
