PEORIA, Ariz. — Jerald Chadwick Lick, Peoria, Ariz., a beloved soul who touched the lives of many, passed away peacefully on Feb. 2, 2024, at the age of 76. He left this world surrounded by the love and warmth of his family and friends.

Born on Nov. 24, 1947, Jerald lived a life characterized by his unwavering kindness, compassion, and boundless love. He was a devoted husband, and a cherished father and grandfather, leaving an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him. His proudest achievement was having a part in his children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments.

Jerald’s journey through life was marked by his passion for his family. Whether it was attending hockey games or building leggo sets with his grandkids or attending birthday parties and graduations receptions, he approached each endeavor with dedication and a zest for life. He loved to garden and was an expert craftsman. His enthusiasm was contagious, and he inspired others to pursue their passions wholeheartedly.

Professionally, Jerald was a farmer for most of his young adult life. He also taught high school English, speech, psychology/sociology, journalism, and forensics for 25 years, retiring in 2004. He excelled in his fields and earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and peers. He was well-known for directing school plays and melodramas. His commitment to excellence and tireless work ethic has left a lasting legacy. Jerald was also a Veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Vietnam War: 995th Maintenance Company from 1968 to 1973.

Beyond his accomplishments, Jerald will be remembered for his warmth, sense of humor, and the ability to make those around him feel loved and valued. He was a pillar of strength during times of need, offering support and a comforting presence to friends and family alike.

Jerald was preceded in death by his father, George Lick, Hunter, Kan. (1977); his mother, Elva (Spears) Lick, Hunter, Kan. (2001); and a brother, Darrell Alan Lick, Hunter, Kan. (1954). He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, LaVonna (Biles) Lick, Peoria, Ariz., whom he married on June 15, 1969; his daughter, Lorraine Lick, Goodyear, Ariz.; a son, Jay Lick, Madison Wisc.; and his youngest son, John Lick, Phoenix, Ariz. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Trent Lick, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Drae Lick, Madison Wisc. His surviving family members will forever hold him close in their hearts. The impact he had on the lives of those who knew him is immeasurable, and his memory will continue to bring comfort and inspiration.

A celebration of Jerald’s life will be held for family and friends in Kansas at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Heifer International, a cause that was dear to his heart. Interment will be at Greenwood Union Cemetery, Hunter, Kan., in a private ceremony for the family. Arrangements entrusted to Phoenix Memorial Park & Mortuary, 200 W.
