ST. JOHN — Shirley Ann Fischer, 91, passed away June 6, 2026, at Aster Estates, Great Bend, Kan. She was born on March 2, 1935, on the family farm near Hudson, Kan., to Charles and Gertrude (Schade) Willinger. On Oct. 2, 1955, she married Elton Fischer at Peace Church, Hudson, Kan. He passed on March 4, 2018.
A lifetime resident of Stafford County, Shirley was a homemaker and farm wife. She was a member of Peace Church in Hudson. Shirley is remembered for her fantastic baking, watching sports and beloved shows, crocheting, puzzles, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include two daughters, Tina Christians and husband Ray of Hoisington, and Penny Ellis and husband Chris of Wichita; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Maxine Willinger of Farmington, N.M., Gloria Willinger of Marble Falls, Texas, and Leona Fischer of Hutchinson; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Larry Willinger and Darwin Willinger; infant sister, Sheila Willinger; sister and brother-in-law, Phyliss and Dwain Gill; and sister-in-law and her husband, Lynette and George Blakeslee.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2026, with Pastor Steve Gill presiding, and visitation with family receiving guests prior to the service from noon to 2 p.m., all at Bryant Funeral Home. Private inurnment will take place at a later date. Memorials have been designated to Quilts of Valor, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.
