Stanley (Stan) J. West

LACROSSE — Stanley (Stan) J. West, age 73, died Nov. 21, 2025, at St. John’s Good Samaritan Center in Kearney, Neb.

He was born on Dec. 9, 1951, in Larned, Kan., to Marven and Opal (Seba) West. On Aug. 2,1980, he married Jane Zecha in Great Bend, Kan. He was a member of the St. James Catholic Church of Kearney and the Knights of Columbus.

Growing up in LaCrosse, Kan., he attended LaCrosse Grade and High School. In 1966, the family moved to Great Bend, Kan., where he attended Great Bend High School graduating with the Class of 1969. He was a member of the first graduating class of Barton County Community College graduating in May 1971. He later attended Kansas State University. Stan was a member of the Argonne Rebel Drum and Bugle Corps Color Guard from 1968 to 1972. He was a member of the 1971 and 1972 American Legion Junior Drum & Bugle Corps National Champions.

A long time resident of Great Bend, Stan and Jane moved to Kearney, Neb., in 2001 where he worked as a technician for Direct TV/AT&T retiring in 2018. He enjoyed fishing, especially at Lake Texoma, antiquing and working on home improvement projects.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marven and Opal (Seba) West and father and mother-in-law, Bob and Margaret (Reif) Zecha. He is survived by his wife, Jane, of Kearney; brother, Jerry (Charlotte) West of Pass Christian, Miss.; sister, Rhonda (Mike) Starbuck of Oologah, Okla.; brother and sister-in-law,  Jim (Sandy) Zecha of Kearney; cherished nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 26, 2025, at St. James Catholic Church, Kearney, Neb. Burial will be at LaCrosse Cemetery, LaCrosse, Kan.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2025, at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney, Neb., with a Rosary following at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Amedisys Foundation – AseraCare Hospice.
