Walter C. Underwood, 92, passed away November 23, 2021, at Brookdale Senior Living in Great Bend. He was born on June 11, 1929, to Kenneth & Edna (Russell) Underwood. He married Theoda Martin March 29, 1951, at Raton, New Mexico.
Coming to Great Bend from Dodge City in 1974, Walter was the Plant Superintendent of Western P&L, Sunflower Electric, Wheatland Electric and Aquila, having retired in 1991. He was a member of First Baptist Church and loved studying the bible. He enjoyed woodworking and restoring antique John Deere tractors.
Survivors include, his wife Theoda Underwood of the home; two sons, Mark Underwood and wife Sherri of Sharon, Kan., and Pat Underwood and wife Kerry of Blanchard, Okla.; two daughters, Debbie Chapman and husband Michael of Lee’s Summit, Mo., and Denise Scott and husband Bryan of Great Bend; sixteen grandchildren; and thirty-six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Charles Underwood.
Visitation will be held from Noon to 8 p.m., Monday, November 29, 2021 at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home with Reverend Leroy Keith presiding. Interment will be in the Forest Park Cemetery in Anthony at 3 p.m., with Military Rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Memorials have been designated to First Baptist Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
