After a 2-hit loss, Deacon Pomeroy ignited a 7-1 Jayhawk Collegiate League baseball victory over the Derby Twins Monday at Al Burns Memorial Field.
Pomeroy's homer after an Elias Leon third-inning double keyed a trio of multi-run innings. Peanut Brazzle singled home Pomeroy after a seventh-inning walk. Caleb Cowan doubled and scored on Tony Moore's groundout.
The Bat Cats added three eighth-inning insurance runs. Leon's single scored Kyle Walker and Andrugh Lee scored on Cowan's groundout. Leon scored on a wide pitch for a 7-1 lead.
Bat Cats starter Tyler Clementz (1-1) struck out eight batters in a brilliant 7-inning, 94-pitch outing.
Reliever Tyler Stuhlsatz benefited from back-to-back double plays keyed by shortstop Kyle Walker. Walker turned a 6-3 eighth-inning double play on a Ramon Martinez groundball. Second baseman Joey Marker and Walker delivered a 4-6-3 double play on a ninth-inning Tyson Owens' groundball.
"We got the bats going late in the game," Clementz said. "We got a lot more momentum going."
