KANSAS CITY, Kan. — No. 5 ranked Cowley College shut out the No. 4 ranked Barton Cougar soccer team 3-0 Saturday in the Region 6/Plains District Championship held at Kansas City Community College.

The Cougars had a 10-match winning and 12-match unbeaten streak snapped. Barton (16-4-2) has high hopes to earn an at-large invitation when the NJCAA field is announced Tuesday. Cowley won two-of-three meetings against the Cougars this fall.

Cowley (14-1-1) clinches a berth for the NJCAA men's soccer championship Nov. 16–22 at Daytona, Fla. Cowley's Leonardo Leitao (13:29), Guilherme Coutinho (71:53) and Renan Syrio (74:07) scored goals.

Cowley's Leitao scored in the 13th-minute, and the Cougars were unable to capitalize on limited scoring opportunities.

The Cougars were outshot 20-8, including 14-4 on frame, with Lucas Meibom's two attempts joined by Jaiko Miguelez and Kotaro Kimura as Barton's efforts on target.

Barton was held scoreless for just the second time this season.

Barton goalie Gabriel Bergamin registered 10 saves across 80 minutes of action. Goalie Keagan Lewis played the final 10 minutes as the Cougars emptied their bench liberally over the closing stretch.
