GREAT BEND (5-0) vs. LIBERAL (5-0)
Defending Western Athletic Conference champion Great Bend has maintained a 15-2 turnover advantage.
Great Bend football coach Erin Beck expects Liberal to focus defensively on the Panthers' passing game averaging 180 yards featuring Ian Premer and Cooper Ohnmacht. Minton has thrown for 783 yards with 13 touchdowns.
"Most teams try to take away away our biggest threats that are known state-wide with Ian (Premer) and Cooper (Ohnmacht) and the way Daxton (Minton) throws it," he said. "Sometimes, it softens up the 'box' and allows us to run it. When teams do that, you've got to take advantage."
Great Bend's Conner Holladay (419 yards) and Minton (230 yards) have keyed a running game averaging 173 yards per game.
Daxton tucked it, made good decisions on the fly," Beck said. "He put it up perfectly and made outstanding throws when we got coverages we liked."
Liberal quarterback Tevin Cotter has thrown for 1,029 yards and 17 touchdowns. Liberal averages 248 yards passing and 161 yards rushing per game. Receiver James Feiser has 541 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns.
"Liberal has skill and Fieser is a talented receiver. Their quarterback is better with the ability to run. We want to slow down their passing game, and know where their biggest threats are. If they throw 30 times, we feel comfortable our defensive backs will make them pay."
