Cardinal softball wins pair

HOISINGTON — The Hoisington/Central Plains softball team rolled past Ellinwood 18-2 and 12-3 for a doubleheader sweep Friday.

The Cardinals (4-0) have scored 58 runs in four games. The Cardinals play Nickerson Tuesday. Ellinwood (0-2) plays at Hays Thomas More Prep Tuesday.

CARDINALS 18, ELLINWOOD 2 (G1) — Ellie Crawford doubled twice and drove home three runs. Crawford (2-0) pitched two innings and struck out three batters.

Kylie Kempke drove home three runs with a trio of singles. Kelsi Maier doubled twice and drove home three runs.

The Cardinals delivered seven doubles in a 17-hit attack.Reese Vaughn,  Aubree Martin, Gabby Reif each drove in two runs.

Ellinwood's Bennett Jacobs doubled. Shyria Quintana and Gail Zollinger scored runs.

CARDINALS 12, ELLINWOOD 3 (G2) — Hoisington's Reif doubled and drove home three runs. The Cardinals hit five doubles.

Maier drove home two runs. Claire Crutcher, Marly Brewer, Reif and Crawford drove in runs. Pitcher Brynn Tarlton (2-0) struck out eight batters in six innings.

Ellinwood's Quintana singled home a run. Jacobs doubled. Ali Gonzalez, Kennedy Behnke and Jenaveve Franco scored Eagles runs.
