Ellinwood baseball loses semifinal game

HAYS TMP 9, ELLINWOOD 4 — Hays Thomas More Prep outscored the Eagles 9-4 thanks to seven hits and 11 walks yielded by Ellinwood's pitchers. The Monarchs (24-5) shut out Ellis 15-0 for a 2-1A state tournament berth at Great Bend.

The Monarchs tagged Ellinwood starter Drake Hosman (8-2) for five earned runs. Hosman walked six batters.

Ellinwood led 2-0. Hosman doubled and scored when Banks Jacobs hit a grounder that was misplayed. Trace Tudor's double scored pinch runner G Kubick. 

TMP responded with five runs. Grant Nehls and Ty Schmeidler delivered RBI in the first. A trio of bases-loaded walks scored Carson Liles, Derek Becker and Grant Nehls. The Monarchs led 8-2.  Liles and Schmeidler scored on groundouts. Jacob Seib singled home Adler Brown.

Hosman scored on a Campbell Coleman fifth inning single. Cohen Gunn scored on Tudor's sacrifice fly for n 8-4 score. TMP's Becker scored on a wild pitch.

ELLINWOOD 19, BENNINGTON 11 — Ellinwood's baseball team outscored Bennington 19-11 to win its 2-1A regional opener Friday.

Ellinwood led 9-2 after two innings, but trailed 10-9 when Bennington scored seven fourth-inning runs. Elllinwood rallied with an 8-run fifth inning for a 17-10 lead. 

Campbell Coleman and Cooper Gunn each drove in three runs. Cohen Gunn, Trace Tudor and Cade Coleman each drove in two runs. Adding RBI were Banks Jacobs, Noah Herrman and Shae Hoskins.

Elllinwood converted six walks and an error in the Eagles' 8-run inning. Cohen Gunn hit a 2-run single, Campbell Coleman had an RBI single and Jacobs hit a sacrifice fly. Elllinwood scored nine unearned runs off seven Bennington errors.

Ellinwood's top pitcher Drake Hosman (8-1) yielded one earned run and struck out five batters. The Eagles permitted nine unearned runs due to six errors.

Bennington's Hunter Johnson homered and drove home four runs. Brayden Goble homered and drove in two runs.
