Great Bend left fielder Ava Kaiser sparked a dominating 12-0 second-game victory over Hutchinson High that completed a sweep of the Salthawks Friday.
Hutchinson loaded the bases with one out in the third inning when Sadie Marciano lined out to left field. Kaiser relayed to pitcher Chayla Prendergast and third baseman Denver Ringo tagged Annalee Erkhoff for an inning-ending double play.
The Panthers responded with an 11-run third inning.
Great Bend (4-0) won the opener 7-6.
PANTHERS 7, HUTCHINSON 6 (G1) — Seven walks issued by the Panthers and three errors gift-wrapped a 6-2 lead for Hutchinson.
An error led to two first-inning runs. Hutchinson scored on a fourth-inning passed ball. Jaden Durant and Jayanna Cornejo drove in runs after two walks, a hit batter and fifth-inning error for a 6-2 lead.
DeShawnna Bryant and Kamryn Koelsch ripped RBI first-inning hits.
The Panthers rallied with 5-run fifth inning.
Katherine Mazouch doubled and scored on Post's groundout to start a 5-run fifth inning. Koelsch's single scored Kya Behr. Alyssa McCauley's clutch single scored Bryant and Koelsch for a 6-6 tie. Callie Umphres scored on a bases-loaded walk to Mazouch issued by pitcher A Coupe.
Prendergast retired six consecutive batters to earn a save after McCauley (1-0) finished the fifth inning.
PANTHERS 12, HUTCHINSON 0 (G2) — Prendergast (2-0) struck out three batters to preserve her perfect 0.00 earned run average through 11 innings.
Behr drove home five runs with a pair of 2-run doubles and an RBI groundout. Mazouch ripped a 3-run triple. Umphres drove in two runs and Bryant drove in one run.
After four games, Ringo (.667, 6-9) and Mazouch (.583), Koelsch (.583) and McCauley (.583) lead the offense along with Bryant (.571) and Behr (.462, 10 RBI).
