LINDSBORG -- Larned quarterback Carson Shaver scored three rushing touchdowns to spark the Indians past Smoky Valley 36-24 in Friday's Central Kansas League football game.

Larned’s defense paved the way for an opening 48-yard scoring drive. Dalen Rasmussen scored on a 5-yard run and Shaver added a 2-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.

Smoky Valley fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Shaver scored on a 1-yard dive for a 14-0 lead.

Then, a football game broke out!

Viking quarterback Ty Heitschmidt threw the first of three touchdown passes on a 19-yard scoring strike to Kristian Ryan. Gavin Stambaugh scored the 2-point conversion for a 14-8 score. 

Larned’s David Colglazier returned the ensuing kickoff 64 yards to the Vikings 13. Shaver scored on a 9-yard run and Colglazier converted the extra point for a 22-8 lead. Shaver's 66-yard touchdown with 50 seconds left in the half for a 30-8 lead.

Heitschmidt connected with Zeke Baker on a 29-yard scoring strike with four seconds before the half for a 30-16 halftime lead.

A 44-yard pass from Shaver to Tristan Regan was spoiled when Colglazier fumbled at the 1-yard line. Mason Miller returned a Heitschmidt interception 18 yards for a 36-16 lead.

The Vikings closed out the scoring on Toren Miller's 6-yard touchdown pass for a 26-24 final.

Shaver netted 114 yards rushing and Jimmy Gardner gained 45, Mason Miller 24, Colglazier 22 and Rasmussen 15. Stambaugh rushed for 85 yards. 

Smoky Valley (0-1) plays Belle Plaine (0-1) and Larned (1-0) plays Hillsboro (0-1) Sept. 13.
