PRETTY PRAIRIE — If you're wondering why these 0-8 football teams want to play one final varsity game, just ask anyone from Pretty Prairie or Macksville.

In perhaps the wildest game in the state, Pretty Prairie outlasted Macksville 50-42 in a game the participants will always remember.

Pretty Prairie's kicker Linus Werner enjoyed a dream game that even Snoopy wouldn't believe.

The Bulldogs were safely ahead 14-0 dominating the game until they weren't. There were 22 points scored in the final two minutes of the first half. 

Macksville scored a safety, a defensive touchdown and on a crazy kickoff return in the final 103 seconds of the first half.

Macksville's all-purpose Gavin Rose threw a touchdown pass, rushed for a score and dished out an assist to teammate Omar Cardoza.

The momentum swung when Bulldog quarterback Gunner Young was flagged for intentional grounding for a 14-2 score. Rose dashed 25 yards for a score. Pretty Prairie's Emmett Harbaugh caught a 5-yard touchdown pass. 

Rose delivered the game's highlight on a 75-yard kickoff return where he spun off Bulldog tackler Colton McReynolds. Rose saw Cardoza running free and flipped him a lateral. Cardoza did the rest motoring 50 yards for a touchdown for a 20-16 halftime score.

Macksville kept rallying from 2-deficit scores after leading 24-20. 

The Mustangs had the apparent tying touchdown (42-42) nullified on a penalty. The Bulldogs were still pinned deep in their territory ahead 42-36 when Emmett Harbaugh caught a 72-yard touchdown pass after being left uncovered that led to a 50-36 lead.

Of course, Macksville made things interesting on Cardoza's 34-yard scoring reception from Braydon Lund in the final minute.

Rose threw three touchdown passes and added a rushing touchdown. Bulldog Young threw four touchdown passes and rushed for two scores. Werner started kicking extra points, but scored on a 50-yard interception return, a 5-yard shovel pass from Young an two shovel pass 2-pointers.
