Monarchs fly past Larned Indians

LARNED  — The Hays Thomas More Prep Monarchs roared past the Larned Indians 8-0 and 11-4 for a baseball doubleheader sweep.

Larned (0-2) plays Lyons (2-0) Tuesday. The Monarchs (2-0) play Ellinwood (0-2) Tuesday.

MONARCHS 8, LARNED 0 (G1) — Monarch starter Ty Schmeidler (1-0) and reliever Grant Nehls struck out 11 batters to combine for a 7-inning no-hitter.

Monarch Caden Dinkel doubled twice and drove home two runs. Connor Breit drove in a run. The Monarchs scored three runs on errors and once on a wild pitch.

Larned's Andres Martinez walked three times. Larned's pitchers walked six  Monarchs, hit two batters and yielded four unearned runs with six errors.

MONARCHS 11, LARNED 4 (G2) — Dinkel stayed hot with two doubles and three runs batted home. Grant Nehls and Isaac Purinton each drove home two runs. Jacob Seib, Ian Nehls and Breit drove in runs.

Larned's Reese Morgan singled twice and scored on a bases-loaded walk to ignite a 3-run third inning. Anthony Gonzalez scored on a wild pitch. Easton Fox scored on Deacon Martin's groundout.

Mason Miller scored on a fourth-inning error.
