No. 1 seed Cardinals sweep Eagles

Hoisington's Kashlin Beck hit a record 18th home run Friday for the Cardinals' school record.

HOISINGTON — Hoisington pitcher Jordyn Boxberger was one batter away from a perfect game. Boxberger (7-2) struck out seven batters and missed a perfect game with a walk to Kadie Bailey.

At the plate, Boxberger was equally effective with two triples, a double and a 3-run homer that ended the game on a run-rule. Boxberger scored four runs and drove home five runs.

Ellie Crawford homered and drove in two runs.  Mollie Steiner drove in two runs. Kashlin Beck and Kyle Kempke also drove home runs.

The Cardinals (13-3) own the No. 1 seed in the Hoisington softball regional ahead of Southeast Saline (10-3) and Beloit (9-3).

CARDINALS 13, EAGLES 1 (G2) — Game Two was Ellie Crawford's time to shine with a one-hitter and a 2-run homer, a 2-run double and sacrifice fly for five RBIs. Crawford (6-1) struck out 13 batters out of 15 outs recorded.

The Cardinals broke the game open with an 11-run first inning. Kempke and Steiner each drove home two runs. Boxberger drove in one run.

Ellinwood's Keighyn Dombroski singled home pinch runner Josalynn Zink for the Eagles' second-inning run.
