Panthers combine for no-hitter

The red-hot Great Bend baseball team scored 28 runs to sweep Hutchinson High 15-1 and 13-6 in Friday's non-league doubleheader at the Great Bend Sports Complex.

Pitchers Hunter Herrman (1-0) and reliever Peyden Oelger combined for a no-hitter in the opener. Herrman struck out three batters.

After three games, Great Bend (3-0) features Carson Umphres (.714, 10 runs, 8 RBI); Ian Premer (700, 4 runs, 4 RBI) and Koehn Ribordy (.500, 5 RBI).

PANTHERS 15, HUTCHINSON 1 (G1) — Catcher Jaxon Wondra drove home five runs keyed by a pair of 2-RBI hit to spark a 13-hit attack.

Wondra and Premer drove home first-inning runs. Wondra hit a 2-run single and Premer drilled a 2-run triple in the second inning.

Wondra's 2-run single followed RBI singles by Jace Schartz and Slade Mohr in a 6-run third inning. Umphres' 3-run homer scored Daxton Minton and Mohr in a 3-run fourth inning.

Hutchinson's GeVaughn Embers scored on a third-inning error.

PANTHERS 13, HUTCHINSON 6 (G2) — Great Bend outscored Hutchinson 13-2 after trailing 4-0 after one-half inning. Hutchinson's Cole Bleything hit  2-run single and Caden Beavers added an RBI single for a 4-0 lead after  half-inning.

Trenton Kern and Ribordy each drove in four runs. Kern drilled a 3-run first-inning home run. Ribordy's bases-loaded scored Premer, Mohr and Kern in a 5-run third inning.

Owen Kaiser and Ribordy ripped RBI fourth-inning singles. Minton added his second sacrifice fly for an 11-5 lead. Premer and Kaiser finished with RBI singles in a 2-run fifth inning.

Kaiser (1-0) struck out seven batters after a shaky opening inning. Reliever Ribordy struck out four batters in two innings.

The Panthers travel to 4-time defending Western Athletic Conference baseball champion Hays High (2-1) Tuesday.
